KijaniSpace Hackathon 2026 Begins in Kisumu

Young innovators gather to develop climate-smart solutions using Earth Observation and IoT technologies

The KijaniSpace Kisumu Talent Training Programme Hackathon officially kicks off on 24–25 July 2026 at LakeHub, Kisumu, Kenya, bringing together talented students, researchers, entrepreneurs, developers and innovators for two days of intensive collaboration and innovation. The hackathon is the on-site component of the KijaniSpace Talent Training Programme, which equips participants with practical skills in Earth Observation, GIS, IoT and AI for climate-smart agriculture and aquaculture.

During the event, multidisciplinary teams will use Copernicus Earth Observation data, the Space-IoT Box, and other digital technologies to address real-world challenges faced by farmers and aquaculture communities in the Lake Victoria Basin. Participants will receive guidance from experienced mentors, develop prototypes, and pitch their solutions to a panel of judges.

The hackathon represents the culmination of months of online learning, teamwork and practical assignments completed as part of the Kisumu Talent Training Programme. It provides participants with an opportunity to apply their newly acquired knowledge in a collaborative innovation environment while working on solutions with real societal impact.

KijaniSpace thanks LakeHub, mentors, judges, consortium partners and all participants for their commitment to making this event possible. Their collaboration demonstrates the strength of the Europe–Africa innovation partnership in advancing climate-smart digital agriculture.
