Women in Tech – Meet Ms Candy Jannys

Welcome to KijaniSpace Talent Voices, a series where participants of the KijaniSpace Talent Training Programme share their own stories, experiences and aspirations.

Today we are honoured to introduce Candy Jannys, a young woman from Kisumu, Kenya, whose passion for technology has been shaped by determination, resilience and a desire to make a positive impact in her community. The story you are about to hear is based on Candy’s own written testimony. It reflects her personal journey, her ambitions and her vision for using technology to solve real-world challenges. We invite you to listen to Candy’s story—in her own words.

KijaniSpace Talent Training Programme Candy is one of the participants in Round 1 of the KijaniSpace Talent Training Programme, which runs from May to July 2026. The programme brings together talented young innovators from Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania to explore how Earth Observation, satellite data and in-situ Internet of Things (IoT) technologies can be combined to develop practical solutions for agriculture, aquaculture and fisheries. Through hands-on training, mentoring and collaboration with experts, participants gain practical skills in using geospatial technologies, environmental data and digital innovation to address local challenges and support sustainable development around the Lake Victoria Basin. For Candy, the programme is an opportunity to deepen her knowledge, collaborate with fellow innovators and pursue her goal of applying technology to improve sustainable aquaculture and strengthen the resilience of communities affected by environmental challenges.

Thank you for listening to Candy’s inspiring story. At KijaniSpace, we believe that innovation begins with people—especially young people who are passionate about solving challenges in their own communities. By connecting Earth Observation, satellite technologies, IoT and local knowledge, the KijaniSpace Talent Training Programme is helping to empower the next generation of innovators across East Africa. This is just one story. Throughout the programme, we will continue to share the journeys, ideas and achievements of talented young women and men who are shaping a more sustainable future for agriculture, fisheries and their communities. Thank you for watching.
